The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Samuel Oko Amankwah, is worried that the municipality cannot boast of a single solid road except a bunch of undulated roads with galleys.
According to him, the municipality has no permanent roads with gutters in the region.
He said all the surrounding communities namely Apolonia, Gbetsele, and Oyibi have no single standard road.
”My people are crying about the state of roads in the municipality and l share in their worry.
“I get numerous distress calls from my people anytime it rains,” he noted.
He added that roads in the area have turned into galleys and man-holes and it is only the tipper trucks that ply the roads.
The MCE painted this worrying picture of the state of roads in the municipality while reacting to the cry of residents during the rainy season and how bad the roads in the municipality have become.
The MCE spoke on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Odeyeeba Kofi Essuman on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
He said that the only proper road was the Kpone Katamanso to Apolonia to Oyibi through Dodowa which also has deteriorated.
”This was an international road but was poorly done in 2016,” he stressed.
He said the road over the years has deteriorated.
”We need help to create some respite for the residents in the municipality,” he noted.
He said the landlords’ association, Assemblymen, chiefs and queens have been bombarding ”my office” with enquiries about the state of their municipal roads.
He minced no words to say that despite all these pressures, the Assembly cannot build an asphalt road in the area.
He pledged to do a documentary on the state of roads in the municipality using a drone and present it to the Ghana Highways Authority and Department of Urban Roads for them to acquaint themselves with the worrying situation for some actions to be taken.
He called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to come to the aid of the Assembly.
