SCULPTURE OF GA HERITAGE COMMISSIONED AT NKRUMAH CIRCLE

It was an interpretation of existing history. Ernest used the migration of the Gas as part of his master’s thesis and so is quite knowledgeable. The spaces and contours have to do with the concept of Homowo, times of plenty and lack. And overcoming the famine. Apparently in Ga culture greetings are said in threes for emphasis. Hence the three sculptures representing the travelers.

The colours were my interpretation, the red bases on the three representing the long tiring walk and hardship they had to endure. The white statue represents their spiritual head, or Wulomoi.

The Ga’s, as stated in the historical plaque operated in a theocracy, so that’s why we made home stand out, in white. I also felt adding the mirrors in the space aptly represent the fact that the Wulomoi also got his guidance from God and reflected that to the people.
