Create conducive environment for children to study at home – Rosemond Anaba

The Director of the Fountain Gate International School (FGIS), Bolgatanga, Reverend Mrs Rosemond Anaba has advised parents and guardians to create a conducive environment for their children to study at home to enable them improve on their studies.

“While teachers are doing their best to help inculcate in children the desire to achieve excellence in their education, parents are expected to support by monitoring their children’s progress at home by supervising their homework,” she said.

They also need to allow their children to watch only educative television programmes which would enhance their academic output, she added.

Rev. Mrs Anaba gave the advice during the ninth graduation ceremony of the school in Bolgatanga. A total of 198 pupils made up of 77 Grade Six and 121 Kindergarten Two pupils graduated to the junior high and primary school levels respectively.

Rev. Mrs Anaba asked parents not to allow their children to watch soap operas, telenovelas and other movies which are rated for adults.

“We as teachers are doing our best but we are not magicians and so every parent must help create a peaceful environment at home, and encourage them when they improve on their academic work,” she said.

She indicated that the FGIS pupils had always scored 100 per cent in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) because of the seriousness the school attached to their school work and expressed the hope that pupils would continue to do their best to lift the name of the school high.

The Vice-Rector of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic, Dr Joseph Larry, who was the guest of honour, noted that parents had a big role to play in the upbringing of their children and also to ensure that their children achieved excellence in their academic work.

He urged the pupils to work hard and take their lessons seriously, adding that, “you the graduands should not disappoint your parents and teachers so that the huge investment being made in you does not go waste”.

The Chairman of the parent- teacher association of the school, Mr Peter Larry, said the strong relationship that existed between the school and the PTA had contributed to the smooth running of the school.

Deserving pupils who excelled in various disciplines were presented with awards at the ceremony.
