The Kyebi Executive Council has banned the Eastern Regional Chairman and Regional Youth Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Bismarck Tawiah Boateng and Apau Haruna Owiredu from visiting the Okyehene’s palace (Ofori Panin Fie).
According to the Council, it has taken that action against the two party officials for insulting and disrespecting the Paramount Chief of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional area, Daasabre Amoatia Ofori Panin and his stool.
Mr Tawiah Boateng supported by Apau Haruna Owiredu reportedly insulted the paramount chief at a press conference after he as President of the Eastern Regional House of Chief, led a group of chiefs on a road tour of roads in the region most of which were in a deplorable state.
He is alleged to have used unsavory language on the revered chief for going on that road tour which he believed was an action by the chief and his colleagues intended to paint the government in a negative light and further asked the Chief whether he was the Minister of Roads and Highways to have gone on a road tour.
This conduct and many others by Mr Tawiah Boateng against the Okyehene led the council to arrive at the decision against the regional Chairman and Youth Organizer.
The Council has written to the Eastern Regional Minister Mavis Ama Frimpong who is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Okyehene at his palace on Friday not to include Bismarck Tawiah Boateng and Apau Haruna Owiredu in her entourage.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Thursday, the Assistant State Secretary to Akyem Abuakwa Council, D.N Ofori Attah stated that the Council’s decision is to avert any unforeseen incident and ensure peace in the area during the Minister’s visit as many people especially the youth are angry at the two for disrespecting their leader.
“He has not shown any remorse and apologized for the invectives he spewed on the Okyehene and as such he is not welcome to Okyehene’s palace.”
Mr Ofori Attah added: “This will serve as a punishment and deterrence to others who think they have the right undermine the sanctity and dignity of the Chieftaincy institution because the last time I checked it was a criminal offence to insult a chief, because as a leader of a regional branch of the ruling party, the first and foremost responsibility looking at the importance of the chieftaincy institution is to uphold its dignity.”
